Food: Past, present, and future

Past and Future Food: Started a compost pile in the backyard. What more fun could I have? We'd like to start a garden, and this should help us with that.

Past and Present Food: Cooked up some leftover dirty rice from home (shown) and learned that peanut butter goes terrific with my sister's delicious fudge (also from home, and also pictured).

In non-food-related news, we took advantage of Wal-Mart's big sale on post-christmas items and we bought some silver and blue-colored decorations (colors associated with celebrating the winter soltice), including two blue stockings.

Holiday

Spent a few days in Baton Rouge, where the fridge shows that the kids are growing up right. See photo of me and Tanner. More Baton Rouge photos at www.flickr.com/pattyandmike.

In other news, Patty has joined the mobile era, with her first cell phone.

Thoughts of the Day

"It is a far sadder thing never to try than merely to fail."

"Remember, the first thing anyone wanted to know about you was whether you were a boy or a girl."

High School Football

Went to a high school football game yesterday in College Station, TX, home of the Texas A&M Aggies, once a hated rival to LSU. Out neighborhood team is LBJ HS, the Jaguars. It went into overtime and they lost bitterly, despite dominating the line of scrimmage. Big plays were their downfall. Plus the kicker was not strong.

In other news, Patty and I cooked some eggplant tonight. Tasted great with the pasta sauce. Mmm.
